Combined solutions
What are combined solutions?
They are the aesthetically challenging and comfortable alternative to clasp dentures. The residual teeth are crowned with telescope crowns as mounting basis for the model casting. For an even better grip it is also possible to implement so called attachments. .
What are the possibilities of combined works?
Attachment solutions
Attachments are stiff fixations that can be detached by the patient himself. They consist of two parts: one is fixed with the crown and the other one is implemented into the removable prosthesis. Attachment fixations are not visible.
The pros and cons of attachment prostheses:
+ invisible fixation
+ the holding force of the attachment can be readjusted and
regulated
+ one part of the prosthesis is fixed in the mouth as a crown or
bridge
+ percentage of grant in aid by the health insurance
- the option of extention is limited
Telescop solutions
Telescope or tapered crowns present a cylindrical or conical fit. Own teeth function as attachment for the removable prosthesis. These abutment teeth are completely enclosed with double crowns. The grip on parallel crowns is achieved through stiction (static friction) and through wedging conical primary (abutment tooth) with secundary parts ( prosthesis).
The pros and cons of telescope and tapered crowns:
+ secure fit of the prosthesis
+ easy extension
+ good handling
+ percentage of grant in aid by the health insurance
- aesthetically not as convenient as a attached prosthesis
Marburger Double crowns
This technique was especially developed at the Marburger dental clinic. Here the own abutment teeth are crowned telescope-like for the grip of the prosthesis. For the actual grip is an additional attachment (small press button) between the secundary and the primary crown responsible. The prosthesis snaps noticable. Because a special dental alloy is used the dentures are crafted like bridges. The conventional palate covering is in this way redundant.
The pros and cons of the Marburger Double crown technique:
+ pleasant wearing comfort
+ no palate covering or sublingual bar
+ secure hold of the denture
+ good handling
+ easy extention
+ percentage of grant in aid by the health insurance
- additional cost for manufacturing
- aesthetically not as convenient as a attached prosthesis
Telescope solutions with all-ceramics
The „Mercedes“ among the telecope solutions is the connection to all-ceramics and galvanic-secondary crowns. In this case your residual teeth, that function as abutment teeth for the removable telescope prosthesis, do not get a cap of metal but a cap made of all-ceramics.
The pros and cons of all-ceramics galvanic-telescope prostheses:
+ secure hold of the prosthesis
+ the own abutment teeth stay white (all-ceramics cap)
+ very good fitting of the secondary parts
+ easy extention
+ good handling
- additional cost for manufacturing
