Implants
What is a dental implant?
Implants are artificial dental roots. They are used for the attachment of crowns, bridges and dentures. An implant is planted into the jaw bone and generates as artificial dental root the base frame for the teeth to be replaced.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
With implants an aesthetically and functional tooth replacement solution is possible. Therefore the adjoining teeth are not harmed during the insertion of a tooth. (Single tooth implant) Furthermore through an implant a bridge or even a total replacement can be designed as fixed construction. Rejoice at a better sense of life due to fixed teeth. Implants make it possible again.
What are the possibilities of implants?
Single tooth implants
For the replacement of a single tooth. The adjoining teeth do not have to be involved.
Implant
If several teeth are missing it is possible to choose a fixed bridge solution with two, three ore more implants as basis.
Implants for removable dentures
With strong reduced residual teeth it is often required to build a combined solution partly fixed and partly removable. By the use of implants the fixed attachment (and therefore a secure fit of the prosthesis) is guaranteed.
Implants for total dentures
Especially patients with total dentures know about the problem of ill-fitting prostheses. The chewing and even speaking can be strongly restrained. Here implants can restore a new sense of life. With a small number of implants it is already possible to fix the „wobbly“ prosthesis and you can start all over with chewing and speaking.
The pros and cons of implants:
+ fixed restorations are possible again
+ the jaw bone is preserved
+ healthy tooth substance is saved
+ implants are durable
- not always indicated (anatomical and medical requirements)
- operation necessary
- normally no grant in aid by the insurance (statutory health insurance)
